A resident of a nursing home in Roanoke, Virginia (VA) secured a $6.5 million jury verdict after falling and suffering serious injuries. Approximately $5 million of the $6.5 million award were “punitive damages” against the nursing home facility. “Punitive damages” are essentially a form of monetary punishment a jury can award.
